Poetry Lovers Come Out of the Closet

When we began blogging, I expected the poetry posts to be our readers' least favorites. I was wrong. Our posts on poetry have inspired more positive e-mailed comments than have any other posts.

One reader pointed me to Eternity Road, where Francis Porretto not only posts poetry, but blogs about it with intelligence and curmudgeonly charm (no, I'm not calling names; he refers to himself as Your Curmudgeon). See his Don't Know Much About Poetry, New Venues and Forms, The Saga, The Rape of the Categories. Like me, he has been surprised to discover how many covert poetry readers are out there.

I also learned that The Blog from the Core has a Sunday Poetry Series, and a Random Poetry list as well. Lane Core also appreciates Millay.

So here's an invitation: Tell me your favorite poem, and why it's your favorite. Assuming it's suitable for this site (that is, rated PG), I'll post it or link to it if copyright allows, and if not, I'll link to Amazon. Poetry lovers, come out of the closet!
